What’s the difference between the 1 day surf school and the 1 day surf tour?
The 1 day surf school includes 2 x 2 hour surf lessons, boards and wetsuits. The 1 day surf tour includes surfboards and wetsuits (no lessons) but supervision is included if you stick between our boundaries.
Can I change the dates after I book?
Yes... we have no problem with changing dates as long as we can fit you in elsewhere.
What should I bring with me?
Besides your personal belongings, you should also bring:
- Sun block for your face
- Beach towel
- Swimsuit to wear under the wetsuit
- Warm clothing
- Lunch money (day tours)
- A smile (day tours)
- Lots of energy and smiles (5 & 12 day tours)
Can I bring my own car?
Yes... you can meet us at one of the many surf beaches around Auckland area on our day trips. You will need to contact us a couple of days beforehand so we can let you know what beach we’re heading too. The price of our day trips does not include transport so there is no discount for bringing your own car.
- 5 & 12 Day Tours:
Yes... you can bring your own car and follow us from Auckland or meet us in Ahipara. We offer a $100 discount for our 5 day tour and a $200 discount for the 12 day tour.
What’s the number of people per lesson/per instructor?
The safety ratio set by Surf NZ is 8 to 1. We like to operate on a 6 to 1 basis on all of our tours.
Can you wear contact lenses in salt water?
Yes lots of surfers who wear glasses wear contact lenses in the water. Please bring disposable lenses.

Can we purchase gear from you?
Yes... we sell new and used surfboards/wetsuits at very reasonable prices. Just talk to your surf guides when you’re on a trip. They will know the best board to suit your ability. You can also or visit our surf shop for clothing and gift vouchers.
How many hours per lesson do you spend in the water?
Each lesson is around 2 hours long. We spend around 30 mins on the beach for the first lesson and then 1.5 hours in the water. Surfing is all about practise so spend about 2 hours in the water for every other lesson after the 1st.
Do you need to be able to swim.
Yes... you need to be a good swimmer with moderate fitness.
